Summer is officially here! The kids are out of school and you’ve got a household to manage. Now what? Here are a few tips to help keep your house clean, your kids busy and your floors protected this summer and beyond.
Make a Shoe Organizer
Dirty carpets and floors can make the whole house feel unclean. No one wants to lie down on the floor to relax and watch a show or roughhouse on a dirty carpet. To keep dirt at bay and protect your carpet and tile, make a shoe organizer and place it by your entry door. A shoe organizer doesn’t have to be expensive or look cluttered. It may be as simple as using a basket or a small shelf with shoe size compartments to keep everyone’s shoes organized. Depending upon the age of your children, they might enjoy helping pick out a shoe organizer or helping to create one.
Door Mats and Rugs
Welcome mats by the front door and area rugs inside preserve and protect your flooring. Wiping ones feet before entering the home helps your carpet last longer and look nicer. Need some new mats or rugs for your tile flooring? Let your children help pick out new ones so they feel involved and understand why it’s important to keep floors clean and hygienic.
The Value of Simple Chores
The golden rule of carpet care is to vacuum 2-3 times a week depending upon the level of foot traffic in your home. This is especially true if children or pets spend a lot of time in the carpeted areas of your home. When you make vacuuming a priority, especially on school breaks when the kids are home more often, the beautiful look and cleaner feel of your carpet will last longer. Create a chore chart of who is responsible for vacuuming every few days and reward kids for their contribution for making the home more comfortable for everyone to live in and enjoy!
