Prepare for Pollen
Spring 2022 may be scheduled to arrive on March 20th, but climate change brings warmer temperatures through February and into March. Throughout the United States, many trees started springtime budding earlier in the year than normal. Some observers additionally reported that animals are starting their springtime activities sooner, including the shedding of winter coats. Many officials indicate that we can expect the same thing this year.
For those who suffer with allergies, budding trees bring pollen and shedding animals release dander. The time of watery noses and itchy eyes is closer than we think! But armed with this knowledge, you can be proactive and take precautions to survive the battle against allergens.
Helpful Home Allergy Tips
What actions can we take so we are prepared for Spring? Here are a few ideas to keep us breathing easier through the season:
- Change clothes often – all it takes is a soft breeze when we are outside, and plenty of microscopic allergens latch onto our clothes. When we get to our homes, so do those hitchhikers. Before you plop on the couch or bed where those pollutants can relocate, slip into something more comfortable and carefully place the clothes in your laundry. But don’t let the laundry sit. If you can clean your clothes and bedding more frequently, it removes the chance of being affected by the pollen attached to them.
- Use a face mask – we should all be used to masks by now! Many find them annoying, but for allergy sufferers, they’re a huge help to filter out pollen and particulates.
- Dust and vacuum your home frequently – the biggest filter in your home is the carpet, but its capacity is finite. If it’s full of contaminants, walking on it just releases particulates into your living areas. When you clean your house of place of business, start dusting from high to low. Allow the dust to settle on your carpet, then vacuum everything up.
- Maintain air filters – along with your carpet, the filters in your vacuum, standing fans, air conditioner, or climate control system all capture allergens, but they also have limited capacity. Make sure to clean them out or replace them according to manufacture standards to make sure they are doing their job effectively.
- Professional steam cleaning – Preferred Carpet Care goes to great lengths to remove as many allergens, pollutants, and contaminants as possible. First, our high end equipment flushes out your carpet, and then we use high-capacity fans to move the air, speeding up drying time and helping to reduce humidity. We also employ HEPA filters on our equipment to capture as many tiny particles as possible.
