Prepare for Cleaner Carpets
Twice a year. Every six months. That’s the recommended span between professional cleaning sessions for your carpet. In between those sessions, your carpet collects dirt and debris from your shoes, oil and sweat from your feet, and allergens from the air. All those particles get trampled down further as you and your family walk on it. It’s no wonder that it needs a deep cleaning semi-annually!
Preferred Carpet Care in Redding is happy to clean your carpets for you. We do a thorough job using your choice of hot water extraction, encapsulation, or other specialized treatments to make sure as much dirt and debris is removed from your carpet as possible. To speed up this work and get your home back to normal as quickly as possible, it helps tremendously if the path before us is cleared of obstacles. As such, we have a few recommendations for what you can do to prepare for our arrival and get the most out of our visit.
7 Steps to Prepare for Success
Identify problem areas — you probably had specific spots in mind when you called us, so please let us know. If you are aware of the source of a certain stain, it will help us to use the correct solvents to remove it. You can also identify high-traffic areas, so that we can give those areas extra attention.
Clear a parking space — we need a place nearby to park our vehicle, as some of our equipment is mounted permanently. We use long hoses and tubes to connect with our equipment outside. Since hot water extraction requires water, it would also be helpful to have easy access to a water spigot. If the situation requires, we can use other methods.
Move the furniture — any easily moved furniture, including chairs, tables, ottomans, coffee tables, etc. should be removed or repositioned beforehand so we can get to as much of your carpet as possible. We also request you remove smaller items like lamps, waste baskets, shoe stands or TV trays. On occasion, we can help with moving furniture, but that needs to be arranged before we get there.
Window dressings — if you have any blinds, drapes or curtains that hang down and get near the carpet (say, 6 inches or less), we ask you tie them back or brace them in a way so that they will not get in the way. Also, moisture coming from our equipment could have an adverse effect on such fabrics if it is in close proximity to the carpet.
Dust off your baseboards — dirty baseboards often visually contrast with fresh clean carpet, and it’s easy for the dirt to get brushed off the boards and into your fresh clean carpet. If you dust them off or use a damp rag to collect the dust prior to carpet cleaning, your baseboards will compliment your carpet as intended.
Vacuum beforehand — sure, we’re coming in to remove dirt from your carpet. But when you vacuum beforehand, you clear the way for us to get at the deeper stuff underneath. It also helps us focus our attention on problem areas without being distracted by things sitting on the surface. If you brushed off your baseboards already, it only makes sense to vacuum up that dust before it gets wafted into the air.
Relocate children and pets – many kids (and adults) like to watch us use our equipment and ask questions. We understand, but little ones tend to get in the way and hoses create a big trip hazard. It’s best to keep them in another room while we work. Also, our equipment often unsettles pets of all shapes and sizes. To ensure they aren’t bothered by our services or equipment, please relocate your pets as well.
Of course, every situation is a little different. Your circumstances might require alternatives to get the job done. When you call us or schedule an appointment online, we will have several questions to prepare for cleaning your carpets. Once we’re both ready, we can provide you with the best carpet cleaning experience in Redding.
