How to Keep Your Furniture Looking Its’ Best
Who doesn’t love the excitement of new furniture? It brightens a room and invites you to curl up with a good book or makes you want to host a dinner party to show off your latest addition. However, without proper maintenance, this beautiful addition to your home can quickly become an eyesore. What can be done to ensure your investment lasts?
How to Maintain Fabric Upholstery
Here are some simple steps to keep your upholstered furniture looking fresh and inviting:
Fluff
Just like your bed pillows, sofa and chair cushions need to be fluffed to help maintain their shape and comfort. If your cushions are filled with soft and squishy fibers, then fluff them every couple of days. If your cushions are firmer by design, then aim to fluff them at least once per week.
Flip
Rotating your cushions regularly helps to ensure that they wear evenly and maintain their proper shape. This is easiest to accomplish with removable cushions and should be done every 2-4 weeks.
Are your cushions attached to the base of your furniture? If so, see if there are zippers at the bottom of each cushion. If you locate zippers, you can remove the interior cushions, fluff and flip them and then reinsert them.
Vacuum
It’s easy to spot the dust on your coffee table. It’s not quite as obvious with fabric upholstery. Even though you can’t see it, the same amount of dust is collecting on all surfaces of your home. If dust on your upholstered furniture is ignored, it will begin to wear on the fibers much like sandpaper, causing premature aging. This soil should be removed by regular vacuuming – ideally every 1-2 weeks.
Professional Cleaning
Upholstered furniture should be cleaned by an IICRC cleaning professional, such as the team at Preferred Carpet Care of Redding, once every 1-2 years depending upon the traffic in your home. This will help to maintain and restore your furniture’s appearance, and will also keep the allergens in your home to a minimum.
Don’t Wait Too Long
When it comes to maintenance, be proactive! If you wait to schedule professional cleaning until your furniture looks dirty, you have waited too long. The soil you see has already caused premature wear of your upholstery fibers. Contact the professional upholstery cleaners at Preferred Carpet Care today. Whether you need restoration cleaning or regularly scheduled maintenance, our trained and experienced professionals are here to help protect your investment!
