Professional Pet Odor and Stain Removal

Pet Urine Removal

Pet urine cannot only cause permanent damage to your floors and fabrics but can also create an unhealthy indoor environment if not properly dealt with. Too keep it simple, Urine acts as an acid, or bleach, and once it dries, it turns "alkaline" which is the same ionic salt you find in a battery and in turn this becomes more difficult to remove. The warm acid state of the urine is the perfect breeding ground for all sorts of bacteria. A lot of our clients notice a yellow or brown stain for the dried urine. The reason for this is because the urine begins to oxidize and react with the carpet to create a color change, which will become (in most cases) permanent if the urine is not removed immediately.

Odor from urine comes in two forms. The first odor comes from bacteria. Urine is a breeding ground for bacteria and once they have made it their home, they produce rapidly. This bacteria growth and breakdown of the urine creates amino acids. The amino acids will get lodged into the fibers to a point of becoming part of the fiber. The waste materials and gases from the decaying urine create an unpleasant odor.

The second source of odor is chemical odor that is present even when the bacteria have been killed. The salts that are left behind as the urine dries are hydrophilic and draw water to them. You must get rid of the urine salts in order to get rid of the odor. That's why just using soap and water on existing urine spots WILL NOT remove any urine odor. In fact, as a side point, bacteria thrives on heat and moisture and it would INCREASE the odor.

Now that we understand more about urine and the odor that comes with it, we can focus on how to remove it professionally. We would apply a specially designed topical enzyme to the stains and let it sit for some time to break down and eat up the bacteria that is lodged into the urine deposits. After that, we would flush the urine and product out with our powerful truck-mounted cleaning machine and of course follow through with our professional hot water extraction method. We guarantee that the odor and bacteria will be removed but as mentioned before, the actual urine stain might have bleached the carpet which would leave us with two options. Option one; we would apply a product after the stain has been cleaned. This product removes stains in a twenty-four hour period. The newer the carpet and the newer the stain is, the better the chance of the stain disappearing. Option two; we could re-dye the carpet where the stain sits. When scheduling your appointment, be sure to inform us of any problem areas that you would like treated.
