Mold Remediation
Let's first discuss a few tid-bits of information about this fungus. Mold usually grows in "hidden" surfaces such as behind wall paper, drywall, or paneling and mainly in attics or basements but sometimes even on or around HVAC systems; Basically anywhere there is a damp environment. The most common cause of mold is due to either a roof or plumbing leak. Typically there is more mold hiding behind the surface than what is seen and most don't know the extent of the damage until the situation is too big for them to handle.
The Key to Mold Control is Moisture Control... Stop it from the source. Fix leaky plumbing or patch up holes in the roof. Reduce humidity by using ventilation in the bathrooms and while running dryers. Use exhaust fans whenever cooking or cleaning. It would be a good idea to have your air ducts cleaned. If not, the HVAC unit sends mold spores circulating through vents and back into your home.
"So what do I do if I find mold?"
If you do see signs of mold, don't do anything until you have a professional retrieve a test sample to tell you what level of harm it may cause. Certain types have serious health risks, whereas other types may be cleaned with soap and water (but keep in mind, mold has the ability to send off spores that disburse and float onto other surfaces and spread even more). Once the mold has been tested and deemed "harmful" call Preferred Carpet Care to remediate the fungi. Preferred Carpet Care has been approved by the IICRC and adheres to the guidelines written by the EPA. We will do this in a safe, timely manner because we know how important your health and your families health is.
