Starting Fresh After 2020

Spring Cleaning

COVID cases are down in California, with at least 3 different vaccines widely available. Restrictions are lowering while temperatures are warming up. A single word appears to be resonating in the minds of Redding citizens: freedom. And yet, a simple gaze upon our living room, den or kitchen might remind us of the past year and all its frustration. What can be done?

Supercharged Spring Cleaning!

The current décor of your home may very well bring back memories of the past year — a year that we all would rather forget. Thankfully, there’s no time like spring for home renovations! But we’re not talking about something drastic like adding a second story or remodeling the bathroom. And we’re not talking about a mere vacuum session, either. There are things your can do as part of your spring cleaning to enliven your home, so it doesn’t remind you of 2020.

Declutter

For many of us, it’s not easy to get rid of things. We all have the tendency to hold on, telling ourselves we “might need it one day” or we’ll “get around to it,” or that we paid good money for that item in the corner that we never use. Now is a great opportunity to remove those things. Here’s a way to look at it: if you haven’t used that item or even touched it in 2 years, then you likely won’t in the future either. Effectively, your own brain has already filed it away and moved on. It might be best to do the same in reality.

Reclaim

If you choose to get rid of unfinished projects, unused furniture, or unnecessary displays, you will certainly increase open space by doing so. Many households have so many furnishings that all the wall areas in a single room are lined with hutches, sofas, recliners and laundry-covered elliptical machines (that thing isn’t meant to be a coat tree, you know).

But being inside for so long has also stifled our need to pick up after ourselves, and now we might well be accustomed to the claustrophobic clutter. You can take back your home by tidying up the rooms and putting things away. Even if you don’t get rid of many items, putting them back where they belong will no doubt remind you of what your home looked like before the lockdowns.

Reposition

Many people like their furniture configured the way it is, typically a sofa in front of the TV, a few chairs, a few tables or an ottoman. Well, guess what? That was the old style, the Covid-era style. Try repositioning your furniture so that it speaks more about people talking to each other, not paying homage to the television. Let’s face it — you probably watch your favorite shows on your phone, tablet or computer now, anyway. If you still use your TV, then consider placing it in another area and then reposition your furniture as well.

If you’re going to reconfigure a room, it’s the perfect opportunity to get it professionally cleaned. At Preferred Carpet Care, we can remove dust, hair or other debris that has been accumulating in corners, under furniture, and along pathways to make your carpet as clean as when you first acquired it. We can help to even out traffic patterns and divots from furniture legs. We also remove any allergy sources that have been accumulating in areas tough to get to. Once we finish cleaning your carpet, you can place your furnishings in any configuration you desire.

Even if you choose to leave your home the way it is, getting your carpet cleaned after such a long stint of “house arrest” will freshen your living space. Carpet cleaning promotes healthy living by alleviating allergic reactions and sanitizing your living area, so you don’t fall prey to other sicknesses. If you’d like to learn more about how carpet cleaning can help you start fresh, or perhaps discuss better living configurations for the sake of your carpet, feel free to set up a consultation on our website, or simply give us a call. Let’s discuss your options on leaving 2020 and memories of COVID-19 in the past!
