One of the most common spills customers of Preferred Carpet Care want to know how to remove is red wine. Here are some simple steps to follow in order to remove a red wine spill before it becomes a stain on your carpet or upholstery:
- Before starting, make sure your carpet does not have any special cleaning requirements. Carpets and upholstery made with natural materials or dyes need professional treatment, even for simple spills and stains.
- As soon as the red wine spill occurs, use a clean towel to blot the stain. Do not rub! Rubbing and scrubbing only mashes the stain further into the carpet or furniture.
- Next try using club soda before breaking out chemical spot treatments or cleaners. Club soda is non-toxic and will not harm furniture or carpeting. Why does club soda work for red wine stains? There’s no scientific evidence to definitively prove club soda is best, but many of our clients swear by it. It might be because club soda is carbonated and therefore is slightly acidic with a small amount of salt. This slight acidity appears to work with the bubbles to more effectively remove the stain.
